Embracing the Absurd: Finding Meaning in Modern Life

This blog, Overcoming Absurdity, draws inspiration from Albert Camus, who explored the conflict between our need for meaning and the world’s silence. He called this tension the absurd and proposed not despair but defiant living: embrace the absurd and live meaningfully anyway. This post reflects on how Camus’s philosophy can guide us through anxiety, burnout, and modern mental health struggles.

Each day can feel repetitive and pointless—wake, work, eat, scroll, sleep, and repeat. Camus described the absurd as “born of this confrontation between the human need and the unreasonable silence of the world.” It strikes when we sense a disconnect between our desire for clarity and the randomness of life. This clash can trigger anxiety, hopelessness, and existential questions like “What’s the point?”

What Is the Absurd?

The absurd arises from a mismatch: humans seek purpose, but reality offers none. Camus wrote that this realization prompts the question of whether life is worth living. It often shows up in our lives as existential dread or depression—where even small tasks feel empty and future plans seem futile. Mental health professionals recognize this as a common experience linked to modern stress, global crises, or the monotony of routine.

Absurdity in Daily Life

The absurd isn’t abstract—it appears in the grind of to-do lists, the repetition of chores, or news of injustice. Camus compares our lives to Sisyphus, condemned to roll a boulder uphill forever. We may feel trapped in cycles that lack deeper meaning. These moments can lead to numbness, anxiety, or the sense that our choices don’t matter. This emotional state, sometimes called existential depression, can be paralyzing.

Responding to the Absurd

Camus’s solution? Acceptance and presence. Don’t escape into false hopes—acknowledge the absurd and live fully anyway. Mindfulness, for instance, helps us sit with discomfort and reduces anxiety by anchoring us in the present. Enjoying small joys—like morning coffee or a walk—can create meaning even when life lacks clear answers. Camus argued that living with passion, even in a meaningless world, is a powerful rebellion.

Rebellion Through Meaning-Making

Rather than resignation, Camus encouraged revolt—creating meaning ourselves. We can do this through personal values, relationships, creativity, and helping others. Acts like journaling, learning, or volunteering shift our focus from the unanswerable to the actionable. In this rebellion, we find purpose in the very act of living. “The absurd man... knows himself to be the master of his days,” Camus writes—reminding us that we shape our lives.

Practical Coping Tips

  • Mindfulness: Ground yourself in the present.

  • Journaling: Clarify values and release anxious thoughts.

  • Talk to someone: You’re not alone—connect with friends or a therapist.

  • Focus on what you can control: Health, effort, relationships.

  • Live your values: Do one thing each day that aligns with what matters to you.

  • Practice self-care: Sleep, eat well, move your body.

  • Seek help if needed: Existential therapy addresses these struggles directly.

Conclusion

Camus ends his essay with hope: “One must imagine Sisyphus happy.” By accepting the absurd and choosing how we live, we can find dignity and even joy in the struggle. Our task is not to erase the absurd but to respond with courage, creativity, and care. Say yes to life—not because it has meaning, but because we give it meaning, every day.

MidJourney Aspect Ratios: How to Optimize Images for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn

MidJourney Aspect Ratios: How to Optimize Images for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn

I’ve been spending some serious time exploring MidJourney’s capabilities—and I just learned something that completely leveled up how I approach blog visuals: aspect ratio optimization for different platforms. It makes your image perfectly tailored for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

In this post, I’ll share what I’ve discovered about customizing aspect ratios using MidJourney, so your images not only look good—but look perfect everywhere they’re posted.

Why Optimization Matters

You’ve created stunning images, but when you post them… something’s off. Maybe the crop is awkward, or the resolution feels fuzzy. That’s because each platform has its own image specs—dimensions, file sizes, and aspect ratios—that affect how your content is displayed.

Let’s break it down by platform:

 Instagram

Instagram is all about aesthetics. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Profile Picture: 320 x 320 pixels → Aspect Ratio 1:1

  • Post Image:

    • Portrait: 1080 x 1350 → 4:5

    • Square: 1080 x 1080 → 1:1

    • Landscape: 1080 x 566 → 1.91:1

  • Story Image: 1080 x 1920 → 9:16

Sample MidJourney prompt: /imagine inspirational quote Stories for Instagram in modern style and vibrant colors --ar 9:16

 Facebook

Facebook supports a variety of formats. Here’s the cheat sheet:

  • Profile Picture: 170 x 170 → 1:1

  • Cover Photo: 820 x 312 → 41:26

  • Shared Image: 1200 x 630 → 12:6.3

Sample MidJourney prompt: /imagine cute puppy --ar 12:6

 Twitter

Twitter is fast-paced, and your visuals need to keep up:

  • Profile Picture: 400 x 400 → 1:1

  • Header Photo: 1500 x 500 → 3:1

  • In-Stream Photo: 1024 x 512 → 2:1

Sample MidJourney prompt: /imagine header photo for Twitter with black background and puppies --ar 3:1

 LinkedIn

Professional, polished, and precise—LinkedIn demands clean visuals:

  • Profile Picture: 400 x 400 → 1:1

  • Background Photo: 1584 x 396 → 4:1

  • Shared Image: 1200 x 627 → 2:1

Sample MidJourney prompt: /imagine LinkedIn background photo in red and pink with text : MidJourney Pro --ar 4:1

Crafting the Perfect Prompt

So, to optimize images for different platforms, use the –ar (or –aspect) parameter to change the aspect ratio of the generated image. It is typically expressed as two numbers separated by a colon, such as 7:4 or 4:3.

To find the aspect ratio, divide the width (1500) by the height (500) and simplify the fraction. The correct aspect ratio of a Twitter Header Photo is 3:1.

Once you know the aspect ratio you need, it’s all about combining the right format + content + style in your prompt.

Be as clear as possible about:

  • Platform
  • Purpose (post, header, story, etc.)
  • Visual theme (colors, layout, mood)
  • Text (if any)

How to Create Stunning Blog Illustrations Using MidJourney Text Prompts

Lately, I’ve been diving deep into MidJourney, and I recently uncovered a technique that completely changed the way I approach visual content—creating blog illustrations using text prompts.

In this post, I’ll share what I’ve learned about using MidJourney to generate powerful, custom illustrations that include your own text—perfect for blog headers, quotes, infographics, and more.

Whether you’re a blogger, content creator, or just curious about AI tools for storytelling, this is something you’ll want to explore.

The Power of Visual Storytelling

Visuals are more than just eye candy. They can:

  • Reinforce your message

  • Simplify complex topics

  • Guide your readers through the content

  • Keep engagement high from top to bottom

MidJourney makes it easy to take this a step further by letting you add text directly into your illustrations—tailored exactly to your post’s tone and theme.

Starting with the Text

Before crafting a prompt, decide what message you want to integrate. That could be:

  • A catchy quote

  • A blog section header

  • A motivational phrase

  • A post title or summary highlight

Example starter prompt:
/imagine motivational illustration for blog header with the text: "Start Your Day with a Smile!"

Crafting the Perfect Prompt

The key to great results in MidJourney is being specific.

Consider:

  • Mood: cheerful, calming, professional, minimalist

  • Color palette: bright, muted, pastel, earthy

  • Style: hand-drawn, digital, realistic, flat design

  • Elements: characters, icons, nature, textures

For example:
/imagine motivational illustration for blog header using bright colors, cheerful characters, and a sunny background with the text: "Start Your Day with a Smile!"

Match the Visual to the Blog Topic

This was one of my favorite discoveries—contextual illustrations really improve how a post feels. When visuals echo the topic, it adds clarity and relevance.

Example for a fitness-related post:
/imagine a health and wellness illustration for fitness with integrated text: "Stay Active, Stay Healthy!"

Tailor to Blog Sections

Different sections of a blog benefit from different visual styles.

For example:

  • Tips sections = icons, clarity, clean layout

  • Inspiration sections = quotes, colors, emotion

  • Tutorials = diagrams, steps, structure

Prompt for an educational tips section:
/imagine educational illustration for the tips section of a blog using icons, simple graphics, and clean layout with the text: "Top 5 Productivity Hacks"

Boosting Blog Engagement with Visual Summaries

Want to help readers remember the key ideas and keep them scrolling? Try creating summary visuals at the end of your posts.

These work great for:

  • Key takeaways

  • Final reminders

  • Shareable summaries

Prompt example:
/imagine an engaging illustration for a blog post summary to boost engagement with the text: "Key Takeaways"

Final Thoughts

I’ve only just started using MidJourney this way, but honestly—it’s been a creative breakthrough.

In this post, I’ve shared what I’ve learned about turning blog messages into dynamic visuals using carefully written text prompts. The flexibility, speed, and visual quality are truly impressive.

Every blog post is an opportunity to visually connect with your audience. With tools like MidJourney, you can turn words into images that stick.

I’ll be experimenting with more styles and use cases soon, and I’ll keep sharing what I learn along the way.

Have you tried adding text to your MidJourney illustrations yet? If not, give it a shot—I’d love to see what you come up with.
